Darkvolt – Reveleção Sombria #02

Darkvolt - Revelação Sombria

Darkvolt

God 2.0

Destaques

  • “God 2.0 is a song full of metaphors and can be interpreted in many ways. I try to turn a mirror towards humanity, our obsessions, our obedience, and our dangerous hunger for control disguised as religion.”
  • “My creations being dark and gloomy is something that comes to me very natural, I think there can be a lot of beauty in darkness too.”
  • “I need an artistic outlet, it’s part self therapy and part an urge to create.”
  • “If my song invokes any kind of feeling whether it be anger or joy it succeeds.”

Entrevista com Darkvolt

Entrevista realizada pela Rádio Darkzera, como parte da série Revelação Sombria. Respostas por Frederik Strobbe.

1. What inspired the creation of “God 2.0”?
The new album’s conceptual theme is ‘religion’, God 2.0 explores the ’what if’ mankind chooses to worship me as their new God? ‘What if’ I’m bad, ’what if’ I’m arrogant and ‘what if’ I’m A.I.?
It’s a song full of metaphors and can be interpreted in many ways. I try to turn a mirror towards humanity, our obsessions, our obedience, and our dangerous hunger for control disguised as religion.
A highly religious person will probably be oblivious to the irony, just like they take their religion literally. I mainly try to prompt the listener to self-reflect.

2. What message or feeling were you hoping to evoke with the lyrics?
Religion can be a dangerous tool in the hands of the manipulative as history has shown us, if my song invokes any kind of feeling whether it be anger or joy it succeeds.

3. How did you shape the atmosphere and sound of the track?
I started with a bass line (Roland model 101) and drums (Akai MPC live + distortion), added some eerie synth sounds + sound fx drenched in reverb and then recorded the vocals. A while later the guitar tracks got added when Martyn Hanson joined the ranks of Darkvolt. In my opinion this makes the track really shine.

4. What role does visual art play in your music releases?
It is very important, it can amplify the message and add to the meaning of the song. For instance the symbol on the mitre is a Jerusalem cross, a symbol that has been misused / abused by fanatics, just like religion has been misused. It’s also a symbol used during the crusades that were especially violent all in name of religion.

5. How was the experience of working with Nexus Project and Nox Deus Aeternum?
Working with Nexus Project went pretty smooth I would say, the remix turned out great.
Since Nox Deus Aeternum is a project of my own I look at it more like just making a different version of the song for a different audience, just like the club mix I also made.

6. What can you share about the upcoming album Spirits of Angst & Despair?
As mentioned before the main theme will be ‘religion’, just like it was ‘nostalgia’ in Darkvolt’s first album ‘The Time Device’. I hope we can release it by the end of 2025 (if not > early 2026). The sound did evolve and mature nicely so I’m looking forward to sharing it to a new audience and the fans.

7. What drives you to keep creating within this dark and powerful aesthetic?
I need an artistic outlet, it’s part self therapy and part an urge to create (maybe playing a little god myself, pun intended). I’m also working hard on the live performances which is another aspect of creating music but a very exciting one. My creations being dark and gloomy is something that comes to me very natural, I think there can be a lot of beauty in darkness too.

8. If listeners could take one idea from “God 2.0”, what would you want it to be?
Think for yourself, blind devotion is still what it says it is: ‘blind’.

9. What would you like to say to those discovering Darkvolt through Rádio Darkzera?
Have a nice day, hope you like our music and don’t forget to tune in from time to time!
